Why UPF 50+ Riding Gear Matters
As riders, we spend countless hours outside - training, hacking, competing - often without a second thought for the long-term impact of sun exposure. While we’re focused on our horses, our own protection can fall behind. That’s where 50+ UPF equestrian clothing comes in.
What Is UPF 50+?
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) measures how much UV radiation a fabric blocks. A 50+ UPF rating is the highest standard available, meaning the material blocks over 98% of UVA and UVB rays.
UVB rays cause immediate damage like sunburn and play the biggest role in skin cancer formation. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin dermis, contributing to premature ageing and long-term skin damage. Unlike SPF, which only applies to sunscreen and mainly measures UVB protection, UPF covers both types of rays. This makes UPF-rated clothing a more comprehensive and consistent form of sun defence.
Why Choose UPF Clothing Over Sunscreen?
Unlike sunscreen, UPF riding shirts don't wear off with sweat, time, or reapplication. It’s built directly into the fibres, offering continuous, reliable protection when you need it most.
For equestrians spending hours outdoors, it's purposeful gear, not an accessory.
